Hi there! I’m Elena. What started as somewhat of a nerdy passion has become a beautiful conduit for hearing stories and ultimately seeing Jesus bridge the gospel deeper into people’s souls. So obviously I want to do this all the time, and probably with you!

What is the Enneagram?

The Enneagram is a contemplative tool designed to examine nine needs of an individual. It requires looking at the whole of a person; their motivations, their story (the good and the bad), and when applied with the gospel allow God’s Spirit to redeem it all. While other personality tools measure behavior, the Enneagram measures motivation.

What is the function of a primary type?

A person’s primary type is their “auto-pilot” self. It is the natural reaction and probably what was learned from an early age to have needs met, survive, and protect oneself. Once a person breaks free from this idea of “old self” and takes on the heart of Christ, they accept their TRUE identity as his beloved child.

What is your experience leading with the Enneagram?

Within the past six years, I have led teams, relationships, and individuals through the Enneagram while simultaneously challenging and applying the Enneagram in my personal life. In 2020, I was taught under Beth and Jeff McCord and received my certification for becoming an Enneagram teacher and facilitator. I will say, a person really only ought to be considered an “expert” if they have applied the Enneagram to their life for more than probably 50-60 years. I am also trained in Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT).

Where is the “test?”

I’m so glad you asked (wink) as there is no test for the Enneagram because the Enneagram is NOT a test. Only you can determine and claim your primary type. Further, this also means you cannot judge someone else’s type as it is their own responsibility. Yes, even if you are correct.

My heart sinks a little whenever I hear someone say, “Yeah, I took the test.” I use assessments exclusively as a launchpad for someone to look into the information on some possible types, however types can very likely be inaccurate when using a test. Hot take: I actually think a person’s primary type is one of the least important things when using the Enneagram. It’s way more important to prioritize growth and practical application.

Is this your full-time gig?

Sure isn’t! I am a missionary in Edinburgh, Scotland and a third-culture kid care specialist with my mission-organization, New International.

What type do you identify most with?

At the moment (as I have changed my mind throughout the years), type 9. For big nerds, 9w1, 1:1 social stance, tritype 946. It wasn’t until I went to professional therapy that I really nailed down my type, so I highly recommend that!

I’m not a Christian, can you still walk with me through the Enneagram?

Of course! So many individuals who do not practice faith have found wonderful hope and personal growth through the Enneagram. You lead the discussion, I just help provide a space to process the language of the Enneagram.
